THE VIGILS FAST-DAYS AND
DAYS OF ABSTINENCE

APPOINTED TO BE OBSERVED

THROUGHOUT THE YEAR

THE VIGILS:

THE following Vigils are appointed to be kept: CHRISTMAS-EVE, CANDLEMAS-EVE, SHROVE TUESDAY, LADYMAS-EVE, EASTER-EVE, ASCENSION-EVE, WHITSUN-EVE, ASSUMPTION-EVE, MICHAELMAS-EVE, and ALL HALLOWS EVE.

THE FAST-DAYS:

THE following days are appointed to be kept as Days of strict Fasting: ASH WEDNESDAY and GOOD FRIDAY.

THE DAYS OF ABSTINENCE:

THE following days are appointed to be observed as Days of Abstinence: The Forty Days of LENT; the three EMBER-DAYS at the Four Seasons, being the WEDNESDAY, FRIDAY, and SATURDAY, after: The Third SUNDAY in ADVENT, The First SUNDAY in LENT, The Feast of PENTECOST, and HOLY CROSS DAY; the three ROGATION-DAYS, being the MONDAY, TUESDAY, and WEDNESDAY, before the FEAST OF THE ASCENSION OF OUR LORD which is called HOLY THURSDAY; and all the FRIDAYS of the Year, except CHRISTMAS-DAY and the Friday after CHRISTMAS-DAY, The Feast of the EPIPHANY, The Friday after EASTER-DAY, and The Friday after HOLY THURSDAY.

WHEN MARRIAGES ARE

FORBIDDEN TO BE SOLEMNISED

I. Any SUNDAY of the Year; and (except the Ordinary permit):

II. From ADVENT SUNDAY until Eight Days after the EPIPHANY;

III. From SEPTUAGESIMA SUNDAY until Eight Days after EASTER;

IV. And from ROGATION SUNDAY until after TRINITY SUNDAY.
